M,
16 years ago you came into this world clinging to me to help you survive. I provided your nourishment and ensured you were safe from the outside world. For the last 16 years, I have raised you to be a shining light in this world. You no longer have to grab my hand to help you get down from the couch or walk into your kindergarten class. The skills we have instilled in you are now in your independent hands. You will make your own good choices and spread your wings to soar into the next 16 years.
Always remember that your mom’s hands will be here to hold you at any hour. My arms will be open to give you hugs and help guide you in the right direction. You may be very independent, but there are times that you will still need your mother. Truth be known is that your mother still needs you.
You will stumble upon many roadblocks in the future, but your best person to help you first is God. He will never fail you. Keep Him first in your life and everything will be fine and dandy and those roadblocks will be moved from your journey.
Every time you leave the driveway in your car, please know that prayers are being said. I know you are an independent young woman and will be just fine, but my hope is that you will always need your mother.
It’s your moment to shine my beautiful daughter. Even though I am not walking you to the stage, I will be in the background cheering you on every step of the way. God has big plans for you and it is my pleasure to watch from the sidelines to see those plans be unveiled.
I love you, M, forever and ever!
Signed,
Your Mother
