62 Tornadoes Hit Our Beautiful State of NC

Total devastation are the two words that keep entering my mind as I continue to see so many terrible and heart wrenching pictures/video come across the internet and news wires.

Let’s set up this scenario for my family. I am out of state in New Orleans helping build a playground for a group of kids with Kaboom. I began to receive text messages, phone calls and voice mails alerting me that I need to check in back home as there is a tornado heading right for our area. I tried to call my hubby, but he would not answer so I just begin to start freaking out. My wonderful boss who I am so very thankful for, talks me down and says everything is going to be okay Jen. Just keep calm. I go back to building a picnic table. Finally, my hubby calls me and in the meantime, I receive another text that the tornado is right at our home. I tell hubby get the girls and go take cover. Right, then on the television comes up our exact address the tornado is going to hit to take shelter NOW. Our girls and hubby immediately go into the bathtub to take cover.

Hubby says our youngest daughter L, was so silent. She would not talk at all. It breaks my heart knowing that I could not be there to comfort the girls but I am so proud of my hubby for staying so strong. Hubby said the walls were shaking and our oldest daughter M said mommy it felt like a earthquake. I am so grateful to say that my family is all safe. We did lose power for a couple of days and lost all our food in the two freezers and fridge, but I could honestly care less. I have my family and so many more families lost so much more. Please keep them in your prayers.

As soon as hubby picked me up from the airport, we went riding down our road. The sights I saw, I could not believe my eyes. Our apartment manager said he could not believe how the tornado just skipped over our apartments without doing devastating damage. Look at these pictures at the end of our road and a couple from my girls’ school road.

And our part of town did not even get hit the worst and it still left this kind of damage. A whole mobile home park was completely destroyed in which it killed 3 small children and one was still holding a flashlight. It chokes me up each time, I hear this. So so so sad!

Good Morning from New Orleans

You heard right friends, I flew into New Orleans, which ironically is one of my bestest’s hometown. The problem with this, is she is not here to show me around but she was so sweet and kind to give me the low down of where all the safe places were at.

I am here for the Mom 2.0 Summit. Expect lots of fun pictures and my thoughts of the city once I return. But… make sure you tune in this weekend to Family Movie Night. You will enjoy it so much and it is time we bring back our TV to where the whole family can enjoy.

Family Movie Night Truth Be Told This Saturday

Let’s face it, there are not many movies that the whole family can sit down and enjoy altogether. The kids either like the animation and the adults love adult movies. That is all changing thanks to Walmart and P&G with their Family Movie Nights.

I was able to what an exclusive pre-screening with my family of the featured movie this week – Truth Be Told.

During the screening, Candace Cameron Bure (yes DJ from Full House) was chatting with us about the movie and giving us a behind the scenes tour so to speak. The movie was so well done and one that the family actually watched the movie all the way through without moving just because it was that good. M and L who are 8, 6 were glued to the TV. I think the horses are what won L’s heart over.

Truth Be Told is centered around a lie.

From the site:

“When leading marriage counselor Annie Morgan (Candace Cameron Bure) is offered an opportunity to host a relationship talk show, she jumps at the chance. But fearful that being single might ruin her big break, she conspires with an old college friend and recent widower, Mark Crane (David James Elliott), to pose as a married couple with kids. Their story starts to unravel when Annie and Mark join her eccentric soon-to-be boss (Ronny Cox) for a weekend at his ranch in New Mexico. Comical misunderstandings mark the event as Annie struggles to keep up the ruse, finding herself emotionally invested and conflicted by her own conscience. Will she confess the truth about her marital status and her feelings for Mark… and will the truth set them free?”

Of course, I have a teaser too:

As a family, the movie teaches us all what a little white lie can do. It teaches morals the good ole fashioned way instead of using sex, violence, or bad language. I even told Cameron in chat that it was so nice to sit and watch the movie the entire time without having to worry if a part would come up on the screen that I do not recommend for my girls. The best part too, was the acting in the movie was not cheesy at all. It was really well done, scripted and produced.

I have said enough, now it is time for you to tune in Saturday Night to watch the movie with your family. Tune into Fox April 16 at 8/7c. Pop some popcorn and gather around the screen to have a great family movie night.

Weight Watchers Quick Lunch Banana and Peanut Butter Sandwich

Growing up in the south, a banana and peanut butter sandwich was the go-to lunch when I was a kid. Just because I am an adult now, doesn’t mean that I cannot still love my specialty sandwiches. The only thing is that peanut butter can use up some beloved points but not anymore. A friend suggested the Better’ N Peanut Butter. It is only 2 points per 2 tablespoons. I am usually going through a jar once a week, it is that good. I do the low sodium.

I decided a couple of weeks to start making my banana and peanut butter sandwiches again. I use the white wheat bread that is now 3 points for two slices on the new points plus program.

This delicious sandwich is only 5 points and it will leave you full. Pair it with some celery or an apple and you have a quick lunch.
