How To Beat The Kid’s Summer Blues

School is out, the heat is on, and the kids are so energized. What to do with all this energy is usually left up to mommy to decide? Also us mommy’s work hard each day to prevent those chalkboard scratching words – “I’m Bored Mommy”.

Here are some ideas that I wanted to share with you that we are doing here in our household.

1) Check your local churches for different types of camps. One of our local churches is doing a soccer camp for ages 5 – 10. My oldest daughter is so excited about playing Soccer in August that we thought this would be a great camp for her.

2) Be a Vacation Bible School Junkie! Hehe… I love that term. We love Bibe School here and there are a lot of churches now that do it during the day from 8:30 to 12. Madisyn just haves a blast with Bible School and cannot wait to go. We will do a couple this summer… one during the day and one at night. She asks me every day when her first Bible School starts.

3) Visit your county’s 4-H Office. Most 4-Hers are offering Super Summer Workshops. These are different workshops that are catered to all different ages groups on different days throughout the summer. I sat down with Madisyn and we picked which ones she wanted to do. They are really cheap too.. like $3.00 to $6.00 for the day workshop.

4) Visit your local library. Our library this summer is having a theme “A Bug’s Summer” which is totally fine with my girl’s. They are all about bugs since we are back in the mountains. The library is having several activities catered to boys and girls all throughout the summer and the best part.. its all FREE! Plus mom and dad’s get to join in all the fun as well if they want.

5) Plan different park picnics that have pools. We have two parks here that have pools that we plan to enjoy this summer.

So this just gives you an idea of how you and your family can make Summer 08 the best YET. Remember to take lots of pictures and make memory books at the end of the summer for each child. The memory book will be one of the greatest gifts ever when that child goes off to college or gets married :).

Summer Thunderstorms Sends Family In a Tizzy

What a beautiful morning we woke up to this morning! We headed out bright and early to the farmer’s market to pick up our weekly fruits and veggies we would need. Then we thought at last minute we would head to the lake again and have a nice cook-out.

We couldn’t have gotten any better spot for the cookout. Great big shade trees all around and a perfect spot for the girls to play in the water. The charcoal goes in the grill and then we put the turkey burgers on. While, taking in the nice summer smell of the charcoal grill and the beautiful nature surroundings, I say “This is the perfect day for a cookout with the right temperatures and the big shade trees.”

About that time… I begin to feel sprinkles. Ok… let’s not worry about it. We are under this big shade tree… it will be fine! Then BAM!!! Big loud of thunder and a huge lightning bolt, then comes the torrential down pours.

We all jump up. Begin throwing food in bags, packing up chairs, trying to load our arms with the coolers and begin running for our lives. It took about 4 trips to get everything in the van and by this point we were all beyond soaked. All families around us yelling and running. Cars and trucks trying to get out at one time. Girls screaming because they were scared and the poor turkey burgers wasted. What a day it was… but we all get in the van and Thank God everyone is safe and sound… THEN we let out the biggest laugh and could NOT stop laughing.

Just all in the day of our life 🙂

5 Year Old Has The Best Advice

Gas prices… what did those two words just do to your mood?

Yes I know… my mood does the exact same thing.

We were all out on the front porch tonight taking in the cool mountain breezes when the topic of gas came up. Hubbs and I were conversing back and forth and you can tell we were in a heated conversation.

Madisyn pipes up and lifts her hands in the air. She says mom and dad, let’s just take in the cool air and calm down.

You better believe that hubbs and I shut up right quick and realized just what came out of our 5 year olds mouth. We all should just take in this beautiful natural air and be calm every once in a while. Like Jesus says… “Out of the mouth of babes”

Beautiful Nature Being Born Right Before Our Eyes

What a fun evening we had right here on our front porch! For the past week, we have been waiting for the eggs to hatch. They finally did TODAY.

You see the bird decided to make nest right in one of my mom’s welcome home signs hahaha. Everytime I would walk out on the porch the mommy bird would dart out right in front of me. Scared me every time.

She would usually sit atop the roof and wait for the path to clear and then finally fly into the nest.

The girls were so amazed and intrigued by the little birdies birth. We really had a neat experience talking them through of what they just witnessed. It seemed like every 5 or 10 minutes they wanted to check in on how they were doing. The mommy bird would keep going to get food and bringing it back to the 5 babies and the girls would just crack up when the bird would drop the food into the birdies mouths.

Makes you appreciate nature even more!
