Wow, take me back a few years to my grocery store days. As you know, I am really pushing hard this Holiday season to get meals served to the hungry. So many families are hurting this season and we all need to pull together to help these families. I am doing just that by volunteering my time tomorrow December 14, 2011 as Celebrity Guest Cashier at Lowes Foods in Boone, NC.

CELEBRITY BLOGGERS PITCH IN FOR FOOD DRIVE

Mom and food bloggers from NC and SC are joining efforts as celebrity cashiers this week. Tweets and posts are powerful communication tools in today’s world. That’s why Lowes Foods has enlisted the help of North and South Carolina bloggers to make its 17th annual Friends Feeding Friends food drive an even bigger success.

This is the seventeenth year that Lowes Foods has partnered with local food banks to help feed families in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. This year’s goal is to collect more than 600,000 pounds of food to provide around 504,000 meals to those in need. Currently, stores have received nearly 40,000 pounds. Come out and see me. I would love your help in achieving the goal of 600,000 pounds. No help is too big or too small. Don’t have the time to pick up food? No worries, we have you covered. Just come on in and purchase pre-made bags of non-perishable items most needed in the food banks in any Lowes Foods or Just $ave Foods store. Donation bins are located at the front of each store for quick and easy drop off. You can also choose to donate cash at the register in increments of $1.00, $3.00 and $5.00 amounts.

I hope to see some of my biggest fans there tomorrow!

Help Kraft Fight Hunger – Day 3 Easy Cheese Dip Recipe

We are helping Kraft Fight Hunger here at One Moms World this Christmas season. It is the least we can do to give back.

According to Feeding America, In 2010, 4.8 percent of all U.S. households (5.6 million households) accessed emergency food from a food pantry one or more times.

As stated in my other posts, here is how you can help:

1. Please “like” the Kraft Food’s Fight Hunger Facebook Page. Once you do, a meal will be donated to a food bank.

2. Play the 2-Minute Trivia drill to donate even more meals.

Kraft will donate up to 4,000,000 meals via online and mobile activities, as part of their goal of providing 25 million meals. I am sharing a Ham Sandwich Recipe today. Each recipe that I am sharing, Kraft is going to donate 1,000 meals to my local food bank.

Cheese Dip

Ingredients

1. 1 block of Velveeta Cheese (I use reduce-fat)

2. 1/2 pound of ground turkey

3. 1/2 pound of sausage

4. 1 can of Rotel Tomatoes (We use mild but you can use hot as well)

Directions

1. Brown ground turkey and sausage together.

2. Cut-up Velveeta Cheese in small squares.

3. Add cheese, ground turkey, sausage and rotel tomatoes together in a crock pot.

4. Cook on high for 3 hours.

Serve with tortilla chips and Enjoy!

I have been making this recipe for years. It is always welcome whenever we are eating, sleeping and breathing sports.

According to Feeding America, In 2010, households with children reported food insecurity at a significantly higher rate than those without children, 20.2 percent compared to 11.7 percent. It hurts my heart to hear people go hungry but especially children. These precious children who don’t even realize the state of the world around them. They just look up to their parents for shelter, food and water. WE can all make a difference and help fight hunger here in the US.

As stated in my other post, here is how you can help:

Ham, Cheddar Cheese and Bacon Sandwiches

Ingredients

Sub rolls
1 tbsp of Kraft Miracle Whip Light
Oscar Mayer Shredded Ham
Kraft Cheddar Cheese Slices
Turkey Bacon (Already cooked)

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees

1. Place ingredients on sub roll.

2. Cut sub roll in-half.

3. Bake at 325 for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is melted.

Enjoy!

Perfect mini sandwiches for tailgating. Everyone that tried them was very impressed and I had to end up putting more in the oven. Now that is a success.

Gaylord Palms Orlando FL Presents Shrek in ICE!

Christmas at Gaylord Palms Resort makes holiday dreams come true. This is a statement that was read to me a couple of weeks ago before I attended this year’s ICE event at the Resort. I was already shaking my head in agreement before I even was able to capture the event in person. This was my third year of attending the Gaylord Palms ICE event. Each year it has got better and this year has topped the charts. Watch out Gaylord, you have your work cut out for you next year to make it even better. The entire family was in awe the whole time we were visiting the Gaylord Palms. I am going to share our ICE and Snow adventures with you today and then tomorrow share even more adventures that are included in this year’s holiday package.

The highlight of Christmas at Gaylord Palms, ICE! is open daily (till Jan. 2, 2012), including
holidays. With more than 16,000 square-feet of frosty 9-degree bliss played out in a winter
wonderland of exciting hand-carved sculptures, ICE! Is a favorite holiday tradition. This year it features
five 30-foot ice slides and an all-new, tribute to the unforgettable DreamWorks’ Animation TV classic
Shrek the Halls. The attraction is carved by a team of 40 artisans from Harbin, China, an area best
known for its annual International Ice and Snow Festival.

I am always so amazed by the work and carving skills. Let’s take a virtual stroll through the ICE event. Passing the hot chocolate around. Be prepared to be amazed!

Isn’t this just breathtaking? Believe me, it is even better in person. You will be in awe the whole time. M and I had to create laughter and family fun on the ICE slides. Yes, you are sliding on ice!

Gaylord Palms always over the last three years included a nativity scene in ice. The beauty, the twinkle of the light shining down has me in awe every time. We caught L standing in front of the Angel for a good three minutes. She would talk to the angel and just stare upwards. Hubby and I both got chills.

A new feature that was added last year is SNOW. Yes, really there is snow in Florida. The Kung Fun Panda Awesome SNOW! features more than 130-tons of snow is freshly made daily to allow kids of all ages to build snowmen and forts while playing in over 3-feet of the cold stuff. The best part? We did not even have to wear a coat. The atmosphere is kept at a crisp 55 degrees. The girls were having so much fun throwing snow balls and not having to worry about freezing. We built a snowman, had fun sliding down the slides and catching each other off guard with a snowball.

Truly a magical and wonderful holiday experience for the whole family. What are you waiting for? Go create memories and have a blast. Believe me, you will not regret the experience. Merry Christmas!

Help Kraft Fight Hunger during Christmas Season – Cookie Recipe

Holiday season can bring great joy for many but also great sadness for many as well. The economy has took a hard hit in the last couple of years and many families are suffering. I know the pantry at my girls school has really suffered and they are doing creative ways to try and get it replenished. Some kids at the school will only get a warm hot meal while they are at school so it is on the shoulders of the school to ensure the kids have food to take home so they will not starve. This just breaks my heart. You hear about starving kids all across other countries, but this is right here in our own backyard. In 2010, 48.8 million Americans lived in food insecure households, 32.6 million adults and 16.2 million children. This should not be happening. We all need to rally together and put in a team effort to put food on these millions of peoples’ plates. It isn’t all about giving gifts this Christmas season, it is all about helping others.

Thanks to Kraft, we are able to help fight this hunger during the Christmas season.

Kraft Foods’ Huddle to Fight Hunger program is on a mission to donate the monetary equivalent of 25 million meals to Feeding America. To help reach this goal, Kraft Foods and their family of iconic brands are rallying around three things Americans are passionate about: football, food and family. Chocolate Chunk Cookies
(adapted from this Kraft recipe)

Ingredients

1 pkg. (2-layer size) devils food cake mix
2 eggs
1 cup MIRACLE WHIP Lite Dressing
1 cup BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunks

Directions:

HEAT oven to 350°F.

BEAT cake mix, eggs and dressing in large bowl with mixer until well blended. Stir in remaining ingredients.

DROP rounded teaspoonfuls of dough, 2 inches apart, onto greased baking sheets.

BAKE 10 to 12 min. or until cookies are slightly firm to the touch. Cool completely on wire racks.

The cookies were a HUGE hit with everyone sitting around the TV watching football. Even the kids loved them. Now will you do your part and share this post? Thank you!
