Mom Hair Makeover With Biolage Hydratherapie

Let’s set the scene. Three busy moms who always put their family first, get whisked away by a fancy black car to a wonderful hair salon in downtown Raleigh, NC.

That is right, SheSpeaks.com teamed up with Biolage and sent us to Hair Inc. at the Crabtree Mall for some much needed hair therapy. All three of us moms – Go Mom Inc, One Moms World and Carolina Mama – all have natural curly hair. Speaking for myself, my hair goes through a real damaging process each day when I straighten my hair. Now believe me, I do decide to wear it curly some days, so that is why I am not getting a brazillian blow-out anytime soon.

The stylists at Hair Inc. took us all three under their wing and provided wonderful hair therapy to our hair, by using the Biolage Hydratherapie Masque and Shampoo on our hair.

My stylist really took the time to explain every step and why it was important to take the time and use really good hair products. I couldn’t believe the difference in the feeling of my hair. My hair was so soft. Even at my family’s Easter dinner this past weekend, I got comments on how soft my hair was.

I love feeling my hair now and feeling how soft the texture is. Also, it is so easy to use the masque at home as you can put it in your hair and then do a little bit of house cleaning and you are ready to wash it off. You only need to use the masque a couple days a week, but you can use the shampoo daily if you would like.

I now know, that it is not always about saving a buck, but it is making sure your hair is getting the right attention with hair products.

Recordable Story Books for Children

Since, I do quite a bit of traveling for work, I wanted to find a special book that the girls could have with them each and every night that I am gone. Believe me, the girls and I both can shed some tears when good byes are said, so I needed something that they could still hear my voice and it would comfort them at night.

Light bulb moment Jen! Use the recordable story book from Hallmark that you received at the Blissdom Conference in Nashville.

Before flying out for my recent trip to New Orleans, I sat in our bedroom and recorded this special book and left it on the bed with a love note from mommy.

As soon as the girls saw it, my husband said they immediately sat on the bed and listened to it 5 times. They were completely amazed of how my voice was inside the book. You see, each time the child turns the page, your voice will read the text that is on that page. The girls called me and said mommy this is the best surprise ever. Each night while I was away, they would play the story 2 times, before turning off the lights and going to bed. My husband said it made bedtime so much more bearable.

The best part? The girls have a sweet keepsake with mommy’s voice that they can play anytime, anywhere they need to hear mommy’s voice. This brings the biggest smile to my face. No worries about them ever erasing the book either, as there is a lock on the book and even when batteries die, your voice will still stay recorded.

I’m in love with Hallmark! Thank you for helping me bring smiles to my girls faces and making traveling just a wee bit easier!

Weight Watchers Pineapple Angel Food Cake

Holidays are all throughout the year and that means large family gatherings here at One Moms World. This could mean unfortunately, that you will stuff yourself so bad that you cannot even get out of your own chair. It does not have to be this way, believe me. I have learned that when invited to huge family gatherings, to take food that you know is healthy, so you will know, you will at least have a couple of choices to pick from.

For our big Easter celebration this past weekend, I found a recipe in the paper called Angel Lush with Pineapple. I made a few changes to it so it would be more Weight Watchers friendly and here was the end result.

Weight Watchers Points Plus = 4 Points

Ingredients:

1 fresh pineapple peeled and crushed
1 pkg. (3.4 oz.) JELL-O Sugar Free Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
1 cup thawed Fat Free COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
1 pkg. (10 oz.) round angel food cake, cut into 3 layers
10 small fresh strawberries

Directions:

1. Mix together in bowl pineapple and dry pudding mix. Stir in cool whip.
2. Stack first angel food cake layer, spread pudding mixture over first layer. Stack the second layer, and then spread pudding mix over layer and do the same with last layer.
3. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Add strawberries over top layer.

How did you celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day as you all know was this past Friday. Even though the day is over now, we need to continue to keep our Earth clean. I posted ideas last week of how your family could celebrate Earth Day everyday, hopefully the tips will help you change the ways things are done in your family.

Thanks to B Kind 2 Earth Day, the girls and I celebrated Friday even though the rain moved in and took over the biggest part of the day.

We started out the morning at Starbucks. My husband always takes his own reusable cup to Dunkin Donuts each morning, but I never do take a reusable cup to Starbucks. I finally did this past Friday.

The only thing, I think I need another cup besides stainless steel as my herbal tea was way too hot to drink even after a hour! So I need to find a plastic one, but it is definitely something that I need to change my ways with so I am not trashing so many cups away.

The girls enjoyed their drinks too, and it made me think, the girls need their own Starbucks reusable mugs. We use reusable mugs in their lunch everyday at school.

After that, we headed over to Goodwill to donate clothes that the girls would not wear anymore. It amazes me how many people will trash clothes when we can just easily donate them to almost any organization. The Goodwill people are always so helpful and will even come out and pick up your donation. M wanted to deliver the clothes herself for Earth Day.

Ways To Celebrate Earth Day Everyday

Earth Day is tomorrow on Good Friday. Two special days combined into one. What a wonderful day this will be!

You know, I love that we do have Earth Day celebration once a year because it brings awareness that our Mother Earth needs our attention as well. Sometimes it seems that she gets shafted to the side unfortunately, we need to realize that although we recognize her on one special day a year, she actually needs recognition all throughout the year.

Here are 5 simple ways that you can help celebrate Earth Day everyday with your family.

1. Use reusable bags when shopping: I just recently made this change because we were busting at the seams with plastic bags and I knew this couldn’t be good for our beautiful Earth. The reusable bags are actually so much more stable too as I have not lost a jar of pasta sauce on the sidewalk lately due to a ripped bag. So many companies have their own reusable shopping bags and they are priced low.

2. Create a bento lunch for your children: I have been using the bento lunch system for 2 years now. My girls actually refuse to eat the in cafeteria at school because they love the bento lunch system. There is never no trash at the end of the day to toss from their lunch boxes. The creativity with the lunches also are so much fun as they love to see what mom has come up with each day.

3. No more store bought water: Do you know how many water bottles we had around the house? Yes, we tried to recycle as many as we could but there would always be those certain bottles that would end up in the trash. We purchase a water filter for the kitchen sink every 3 months and use our own reusable water bottles to fill up with water each day. They also have now the four water bottle filters you can purchase. This is on my list to purchase next so the girls can have water bottles ready as soon as they come in from playing and head straight to the fridge.

4. Turn off the water: That is right! I have finally successfully taught the girls to turn off the water when brushing their teeth. Do you realize how much water is wasted by leaving the water on the whole time you are brushing? It is a lot and it is so easy to just turn off the water. It does take time to teach them, but now they automatically do it each time.

5. Set-up a recycle bin and trash bin: If you have a recycle bin right beside your trash bin, then it is so much easier to recycle. When you go to place something in the trash throughout the day at your house, then stop and think a moment, can that be recycled? Once you get in the to routine, it comes as second nature as where to put things.

These are all simple tasks that can be done and get the whole family involved to help ensure we keep our beautiful Mother Earth just that beautiful.
