Moving into a new parenting territory

I look at my girls each and everyday. Thoughts go through my head on how I can slow down time. Unfortunately, none of those thoughts are making any headway on slowing down time. I am moving into a new parenting territory. This new journey is one that I am taking very serious.

I am actually thankful to be selected to participate in the U by Kotex Ambassador Campaign. Memories still halt me when I first started my period as a little girl in sixth grade. I was so terrified. My mom had not really sat down and talked with me at all on what to expect. Needless to say, you can see why I was terrified. Thanks to a recommendation from a friend, I purchased American Girl’s The Care and Keeping of You book for my oldest daughter this past Christmas. She was really fascinated in the book and it led to many questions. It was great one-on-one conversations between my daughter and I. I do still want to continue talking and keeping the door of communication open. I want my daughters’ to know that they can come to me anytime and always feel comfortable coming to me to talk about topics such as this particular one.

Watching this video from Nickelodeon Parents Connect Aimee Teegarden really zoned in on why I want to continue the talk with my daughters’. I would never want them to be at a sleepover or at school like I was and start their period without me talking to them first. One thing, it is not right and two, I always want to them feel at ease on this new journey in childhood.

I love that Kotex is giving parents this awesome resource to open the doors to conversations with their daughter(s). I am going to use this site over the next 6 months with my oldest daughter. I will be reporting back each month on my thoughts and opinions. Please feel free to share the site with your daughter and start those conversations. Also, the U by Kotex is a great site for answers to questions about starting their period.

I am still in awe that I am even having these conversations. Can’t I just keep them little forever? I want to keep them protected under my wings forever. On the other hand, I am ready to tackle this next parenting journey and keep a very close relationship with my girls forever.
